Cholera Vaccine
Louis Pasteur introduces a new vaccine.
French chemist who work in the field of microbiology and chemistry led to a list of scientific discoveries.
Always remembered for his development of pasteurization in milk and invention of vaccines
He introduced vaccine for rabies and anthrax.
Discovery for vaccination for cholera was just an accident
In 1880, he was conducting experiments on chicken with cholera, and had instucted his assistant Charles Chamberland to inoculate the birds with a culture of cholera bacteria.
Chamberalnd failed to do correctly, a month later the spoiled culture used on birds became ill but didnt die
Pasteur realized that the weakened bacteria produced immunity
This allowed the vaccine to be created in large quantities which prevented disease.
