OIL PAINTS

• They are made by mixing and grinding a pigment with drying vegetable oil like linseed oil
• The paint can be applied to many different surface and texture like canvas 
• Before painting, canvas is stretched on a wooden frame and surface is prepared with glue and primer 
• 2 main brushes are mainly used 
• One is STIFF HOG HAIR BRISTLE BRUSH for covering large areas 
• SOFT HAIR BRUSH from sable for fine detail 
• Painting knives also used to achieve different effects. 
• IMPASTO- a technique where oil paint applied thickly 
• Can also be thinned by using Turpentine or white spirit .
• Varshines applied on finished painting to protect the surface and to give gloss finish look.
• Linseed oil is derived from flax seed plant .
• Canvas like Cotton duck , Fine linen or Coarse linen is used .
